What is BOGS?

The main goal of the Dalhousie Biology Organization of Graduate Students (BOGS) is to support the interests of graduate students within the Biology Department at Dalhousie University. We do our best to represent student voices at departmental meetings (Committee of the Whole, COW), and to encourage departmental mingling. As a biology grad student, you are automatically a member of BOGS!

Graduate student life involves much more than just academic pursuits. It's helpful to get to know the other students around you, both in your lab and in the rest of the department. They can also be your best support system when your experiments aren't working, you're discouraged or confused, or just need to blow off some steam. To help you get to know the people around you, BOGS organizes a series of social events during the year. An easy and relaxed way to get to know your fellow grad students is to come to our weekly seminar series, FISH (Friday Informal Seminar Hour), in the 5th floor lounge, and then stick around for BioBeer which follows.
The dates, times and titles of departmental seminars and graduate student thesis defences are posted here. You can also learn about the annual graduate student conference, and read the ever-so-useful Graduate Student Survival Guide.

Take the time to look around, because this site contains important dates, event information, interesting links and pictures, and helpful hints and tips for Dalhousie biology grad students. We, your current BOGS Executives, wish you a wonderful year and good luck with your research!
